What do you think a good translation? How do you think of a translation as good or bad? For these applications, you must agree on a set of criteria. I tried to facilitate this task and to elect two approaches – a single, with very few clear criteria and a more complex with some, but clear criteria. Here they are:
Before First some simple criteria and pragmatic
– Knowledge of grammar in the source language and knowledge of vocabulary and a goodunderstanding of source text – the ability to create a translator for a given text (source language text) in the target language – to translate the style and atmosphere of the original text, as can be captured.
According Second, a policy easier, but working:
– A good translation is easy to understand – a good translation is fluent and smooth – a good translation means, wherever possible, the meaning of the original text – a good translationdistinguish between the metaphorical and literal – a good translation recreates the culture / historical context of the original – a good translation is clear and understandable that implicit in abbreviations;
A good translation can not be a poor translator, and a good translator must be a good set of skills and strategies.
Translation skills:
Each translator and a beginner is one in particular, must own or have developed a number of importantbasic skills including reading comprehension, research, analysis and performance capabilities.
Reading: The first step in a process of translation is to read the text. This activity is part of psychology, because the perceptual system. This is mostly an unconscious process, and a multi-layered. While we translate phrases, we have a map of all the original text in our heads, and at the same time, a map oftext that we want to make the goal. So, while watching trees (sentences), we must not forget the forest (the entire text.) This ability does not come out of nowhere. This is the result of extensive personal knowledge and rich experience of life. For this reason, the light and students are invited to translators some basic literacy skills to obtain
– Learn about the basic and main ideas: – read for details – identification of the meanings of new words and expressions -identification of the style – literary, scientific, technical, informational, persuasive, etc. – Identification of cultural references in word choice;
Research skills:
The simplest advice for a novice translator: if you're not a meaning of a word to know, see the dictionary. Easy to say but difficult to achieve. Why not? Because there are many different types of dictionaries, a bilingual dictionary, a dictionary on a historical basis, dictionariesCurrent English, dictionaries of idioms, specialized dictionaries (dictionaries of common errors, dictionary of idioms, slang dictionaries, technical dictionaries), encyclopedic dictionaries, dictionaries of innovations and monolingual dictionaries. The choice of the best or most appropriate depends on the style of the Dictionary original text, the skill of the translator and the usertranslation. Professionals know that there are two basic types of users translation – are users and specialized users.
translators beginners and students are also recommended platform some basic research on how to use:
– Bilingual dictionaries to search for the meaning of new words – dictionaries monolingual source language to control the use of new words in the target language – vocabulary related glossaries and lists of specialized terms -Dictionary software, if available – magazines and newspapers and needed to help with the text, especially when technology.
analysis capabilities: the translation process through a phase of analysis is marked and a synthesis phase. During the analysis of the translator refers to the original text to understand as completely as possible. The synthesis phase is where the original text to the reader expected. Translators are encouraged to use the followingStrategies in the analysis phase:
– Identify the beginning and end of ideas in the text and the relationship between them: – Identify "best" means that fits the context – Identify structures in the target language as "the best" represents the original;
As a fledgling translator, a translator or student, you are invited to do some of the following basic strategies:
– Use the correct word, as used in the target language – use correct sentence structuresused for the purpose of language – to the idea of the text in clear sentences in the target language – to articulate phrases to bring the overall meaning translated – changes to the text as a whole to make sense of the original without distorting the original ideas.
The skills and strategies mentioned above in relation to basic and interesting for beginners and students. However, there will be sophisticated and professional translators useful.
Inot commit myself to the fact that the requirements and recommendations are also important for the interpretation and interpreters. But it is even against such an interpretation.
