English is widely known as the lingua franca of modern times. Spoken as a first language with a maximum of four hundred million people – mainly in USA, UK, and "western offshoots" – and as a second language, up to a billion others, including a large number of India and China is a language overall.
Originally spread over the British empire continues to grow with the increase in U.S. global leadership in the recentcentury. What is an official language of the United Nations, European Union and the Commonwealth, and for many, while the face of globalization 'for the first time, is speaking English. Measured Rather Than the average person, the feeling is even stronger . Most websites worldwide, is written in English. In some areas, such as international scientific publishing, which is something like a monopoly in English.
Unlike some other languages, English is not regulated or controlled by a central or single authority. Many of us look at something from time to time, in a good dictionary (eg Oxford English Dictionary), but it is our choice as authors, speakers and readers. Of course we found a good dictionary or influential it may be, is also a matter of choice, but we do it by force of tradition, convention and habit behind.
Like any developer language> English language is alive, is not coordinated or controlled. The task of the editors of the English dictionary is important in the world to identify which word in the lexicon, does not tell us the currency to be used or should be used. This means that English and varieties of English depends on the company using the language.
It is not surprising that English-speaking population of large and distributed, it consists ofA large number of different companies around the world have produced a wide range of varieties of English. Some varieties have been deliberately designed with one goal in mind. "Basic English", for example, is a cut version of the Italian language to make it easier to learn and the potential to reduce misunderstandings among the international speakers.
Most varieties, however, developed by the behavior of Englishcommunity or another language. Most people know that American English (or American English) is different from British (UK or English). Within a nation, a royal city, as visitors soon discover that the language used (but yet in English) can vary greatly from place to place. As well as geographical areas, different regions or areas in order to make the language communities. Many professionals to communicate so many 'natives' of their territory for the rest of usperhaps difficult to understand.
So in the twentieth century, there may be more English-speaking people live as there are people who in life was the beginning of last century. Everyone belongs to at least one and perhaps very different English communities – and this is something to think about our writing and communication skills.
